Standing tall in the heart of Lower Manhattan is this amazing Cuban cantina. Situated on top of Hotel Hugo, the bar offers you an amazing 360 degree view of Lower Manhattan and beyond. On this point, it’s important to note that you can’t find many bars in Manhattan that offer unobstructed views from the Empire State Building to the Statue of Liberty. In addition, with Jersey to your West, it’s a great place for a sunset view.
Only open from the summer until October, this place gives you a chance to relax to the Caribbean beats and sip on the Manhattan-priced cocktails with a Latin flare. The bar also offers Latin-inspired food, but having been here twice I’ve come to learn that the menu changes according to the season. However, if they have tacos on the menu when you pay a visit, make sure to order it as it’s one of Azul’s best snacks!
One of my favourite things when visiting big cities is street art and graffiti, especially when it’s done with style to decorate a place. Azul has plenty of this, and in addition to that, the use of posters and articles have given the place it’s eclectic character.
On both my visits to this bar, I unfortunately missed out on two cracking events hosted by Azul. Firstly, I missed the the live band which takes place on Sundays, which I imagine would be perfect to listen to and dance to within this Latino vibe. Secondly, I missed the open cinema club which is hosted on Monday evenings. So if you are in New York in the coming few weeks and want to enjoy your evening then click here to find out more and to book in advance.
So with summer having come and gone, go and make the most of the warm autumn months and check out Azul on the rooftop.
